A Sweet Retreat

I’m a sucker for the sweet aroma of coffee and tea at my local cafe. It’s where I get most of my writing done. But every once in a while, I like to pack up my Tokidoki duffel bag and head out into the nature for a writing retreat.

This wasn’t an organized writing retreat (though I’d love to attend one of those one day). But just a trip I planned on my own in hopes of some extra inspiration.

I found a lovely cottage on Airbnb and was greeted with a Scrabble welcome – how appropriately literary! Just outside my room was a small fountain that made for a wonderfully Zen soundtrack. Hummingbirds and various other feathered friends congregated by the feeders nearby. It was a perfectly peaceful haven that allowed me to relax and focus on my writing.

The long weekend ended so quickly, and as I drove home, it occurred to me how important these little retreats are. Regardless of what what you do for a living. Authors, computer programmers, teachers, moms – we all deserve these rejuvenating getaways. There’s nothing like coming home refreshed and ready to take on regular life with a new perspective.
